Act 235 Getting Started

WE PROVIDE A ONE-STOP SHOP. You will be able to get done any one or all of the three things you need to do to apply for acceptance into the Act 235 LWTA Program at our office. These are the three things you must do to apply to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to be accepted as a candidate for Act 235 Certification:

  1. Take and pass your Psychological Examination (which includes the MMPI-2 Test, administered by a PA licensed Psychologist). This is done at our office. You leave with your completed report.
  2. Take and pass your Physical Examination (which includes an eye exam, administered by a PA licensed Physician). This is also done at our office by our PA Licensed Physician, Dr. Gary Salzman, D.O.
  3. Get your fingerprints done. This can be done at our office also.

    A. First you must fill out the online Lethal Weapons Application. Go to: https://www.pa.cogentid.com/index_tac.htm

    . Under Lethal Weapons Training Act 235, click on LWTA Application.

    Fill out the online application and pay online with a credit card the $77.50 fee to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the Lethal Weapons Certification Application.

    D.
    Print out your numbered receipt.

    E. For your convenience, for fingerprints done with no hassle, bring your numbered receipt from your online application to us when you attend our Act 235 Exam Session, and we shall have FingerprintsNOW on site to do your fingerprints for a service fee of $40.00 in cash.
  4. ONCE YOUR ARE ACCEPTED INTO THE ACT 235 PROGRAM (i.e., AFTER you have passed your Psychological and Physical Exams, AND passed your PA State Police Background Check, you will receive your Letter of Acceptance from PA Lethal Weapons Certification. This can take up to 6 weeks.

We conduct our Act 235 Exam Sessions on Saturdays and announce the dates on this website and in our voice mail when you call our office at 215-947-7867.

EXPLANATION OF OUR FEES:

  1. The cost of our Psychological Exam is $100. cash. We only accept cash AND it is to be paid at the exam (no money order or checks). INSURANCE IS NOT ACCEPTED.
  2. The cost of our Physical Exam, offered for your convenience if you need it, is $75. cash paid to the medical doctor at the exam. INSURANCE IS NOT ACCEPTED.
  3. The Service Fee charged by our Fingerprinter, FingerprintsNOW, who is a Cogent Fingerprint Vendor is $40.00 cash.

YOU NEED TO BRING TO OUR OFFICE ON THE SATURDAY EXAM SESSION YOU ATTEND SOME FORM OF GOVERNMENT I.D. SUCH AS YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE AND THE AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU NEED TO PAY FOR THE COMBINATION OF SERVICES YOU WANT ON THAT DAY:

  1. $100. cash for the Psychological Exam
  2. If you need the physical exam, $75. cash for the medical doctor.
  3. If you want your fingerprints done, bring your numbered receipt from your online application and $40. in cash for FingerprintsNOW.

NOTE: You will walk out with a copy of your original Psychological Exam Report.

The Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training Act, or LWTA, provides for the training and licensing of security guards, protective patrolmen, private detectives and criminal investigators, carrying and using lethal weapons in their employment. The program falls under the executive authority of the Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police.Before you can enroll at a PA State Police Certified Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training School, you must make application and be accepted into the program. The Act 235 application steps consists of completing each of the following:

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST have your online application filed with the PA State Police, been fingerprinted and have passed both your psychological examination which includes the MMPI-2 test, and your physical examination, before your Act 235 authorization letter is issued by the PA State Police to attend your Act 235 training.
